Ciclos del Tiempo arises from the continuous reflection on the nature of something as average and yet as mysterious as Time itself, being this concept the basis on which music is articulated.
One of the most recent hypotheses has been proposed by Nobel prize Roger Penrose in the book this piece take its name from. The author suggests that our universe is one of the infinite space-time expansion (and only expansion) cycles. In this process, black holes are a key element to “reshape” entropy, allowing an infinite almost empty space being topologically equivalent to a single point that condense all the matter, producing a new Big Bang.
Ciclos del Tiempo, for violin and mixed electronics, proposes a musical translation of these suggestive ideas. The piece is comprised by several sections, each of them articulated with specific resources and vanishing at some point to make way to the next section. Electronics part is created based on recordings from violinist Beatriz Paredes, who kindly helped me to obtain different articulations and timbres. These sounds are transformed and imbricated with the soloist in different ways according to the own structure of the piece.
Ciclos del Tiempo is dedicated to violinist Mario Pérez, who premiered the piece on 16th November 2023 at Real Conservatorio Superior de Música de Madrid as part of the XXV Contemporary Music International Festival COMA’23, organized by Asociación Madrileña de Compositores.
In order to enjoy the spatialization of the electronics, headphones are recommended to listen to this piece.
